Final Video

Loses a lot of its definition through resizing and uploading. Nonetheless this is the final video I summitted.

Final Editing

Today just involved a lot of editing of my numerous cut scenes. Most of my time was spent timing the scene changes with the music, and keeping the video as close to 60 seconds as possible. Final touches just need to be made like credits and possible fade in/fade out. Below are a few screen shots during editing. they follow the general progression of the final video, but some shots were omitted due to time restrictions.

I like that this video follows some sort of narrative, and has natural progression through the environment in space and time. Also the cyclic nature of the views gives some harmony to the piece: a gradual progression into the finer details, a climax and a returning to the same shot as the beginning.

Soundtrack

I have been searching for music to add to the atmosphere of my environment. Using Jamendo (through Creative Commons) I managed to find the artist Celestial Aeon Project who produces music free to download. Much of their music is fantasy themed so fits well with what I am trying to achieve. I used the track 'Forgotten Memories', which grows through a climax and would add good drama and tempo to the scene, aiding in the timing of cuts between shots. The track is, however, about 3min so I needed to edit it to the 60 second limit while keeping a fluid progression through the track. This editing proved difficult and, with permission, I will try to use the approx 1:10 I've got. Here is the original track sourced from youtube.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRKbloZh4Nw

Development of intentions

Since testing the importing of my model into Esperient Creator multiple times, I've found that the textures look much more resolved. Photo textures, which look uneasy and unpolished in Sketchup come out quite well refined and realistic when imported, so therefore I will be extending my use of realistic textures (marble, stone..). these work well with the effects i can add wiuth esperient as well.

As for the exploration of my environment, I plan to use a structured investigation of the space (telling a story with beginning middle and end). I will attempt to achieve this with multiple cut scenes exploring the larger details from a distance and digging into the model closer and closer to reveal much finer details. Climaxing, ambient (or fantasy) music will be used to aid the development of the scene and build the right sort of atmosphere.

I will continue to experiment with environmental effects and the abilities of Esperient to pull the piece together.

100 Words

For my final I aim to combine elements of realistic representation and abstract forms. With the mixture of familiar, real-world features, and others which do not represent real-world motifs, I hope to build a hyperreal atmosphere - familiar enough for the viewer to inhabit and witness in scale but somewhat surreal and abstract (heavenly). I will create a world where physical laws are not obeyed, then perhaps employ some real-world physics and play with the abilities of Esperient Creator.

Rendered Images

These larger rendered images extend from the tests posted earlier, displaying similar views. Between these 7 images there is often slight variation of lighting to achieve the right aesthetic. The views shown are intended to give a walk-through or experience of inhabiting the environment.

Some More Deep Exploration Test Renders

These are just some additional small scale experiments with rendering in Deep Exploration. I'm playing with adding rock texture to certain aspects (back in SketchUp), and adding/moving/altering lights. Testing out other views has also been done.
